On Monday November 24th, the White House released a list of 14 pardons and two commutations approved by W. As I mentioned in a post last week, these lists are commonplace for an outgoing president, usually filed up to the last minute of his administration. This particular list was shocking though for the names not included, primarily Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Conrad Black, and Michael Milken. And what's funnier is who was included. For example, The Fugees' John Forte happened to be one of the lucky bastards who got a pass from W.
According to The Guardian:
"Among the 14 pardons and two commutations released yesterday by the White House was John Forte, the Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist known for his collaborations with the Fugees. Forte had served about seven years of a 14-year sentence for transporting a suitcase filled with more than $1m worth of cocaine."
Looks like Forte must have had some good lawyers on his case, because his "Free John Forte" website appears to have said "Coming Soon" for awhile now. So it wouldn't seem the site was exactly a beacon of online activism for those yearning to see Mr. Forte released from lock up.
