“The Bottoms” is a short essay that offers a brief but revealing look at life in the shadow of war and addiction. Not only are the psychic costs of war and alcoholism considered, but the way that these elements can permanently fragment a family. This essay was included in the April 2014 exhibition A Gathering of Things Seen and Unseen, curated by Jennifer Nagle Myers for Coop Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. The finished piece was a text essay laid out against a destroyed copy of Thomas Bell’s Out of This Furnace using wheat paste on Masonite. Dimensions are 17.5″ x 24″. “The Bottoms” was purchased by a private collector from Nashville.
