Biography

Matthew Newton is the author of Shopping Mall, a book about the curiosity, ritual, and fantasy of the American mall. He has appeared as a commentator on NPR and Al Jazeera America. His writing has appeared in The Paris Review Daily, Guernica, ,

Newton’s essays and reporting have appeared in The Paris Review Daily, the Oxford American, CityLab, Forbes, and Guernica. He has been a commentator on NPR and Al Jazeera America, and is the author of Shopping Mall (Bloomsbury).

He lives in Pittsburgh and is currently working on his next book, Werewolf Country, a memoir about masculinity, mental illness, and teenage love set in the American suburbs during the mid-1990s.
