Editorial Services

In addition to writing, I also maintain an editorial practice focused on helping individuals and organizations create clear and compelling stories that resonate with their respective audiences. With twenty years of editorial experience across a variety of industries, I have edited and/or helped to create just about every type of publication or communication—from newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and journals to press releases, annual reports, websites, social media campaigns, and more.

My skills are specialized and my client base is diverse. I work with museums, cultural institutions, businesses, nonprofits, and universities. I also work with artists, administrators, curators, historians, and other professionals in individual or team sessions. Services I provide include consulting, developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and indexing. I also develop book projects, coach authors, help jobseekers design CVs and strengthen cover letters, manage large-scale editorial initiatives, and facilitate writing workshops.

If you are interested in discussing a writing, editing, design, or publishing project—or just want to say hello—please feel free to email me.

In the practical sense, the term “editorial” encompasses writing, editing, and design. But it is also more than that. To approach a topic from an editorial perspective is to thoughtfully and intentionally consider its intellectual depth and scope.

Consulting

Consulting provides authors with personalized support at any stage of a writing project—whether working on a book, exhibition catalogue, white paper, or annual report.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing helps shape the vision, argument, evidence, order, and flow of a manuscript—whether it’s a book, essay, white paper, annual report, or more.

Line Editing

Line editing involves, as the name implies, the line-by-line revision of a text. It is focused on readability, including sentence structure and word choice.

Copyediting

Copyediting involves a focused review of your writing, with attention to grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, and overall correctness and consistency.

Types of Editing

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final step in
the editing process to ensure consistency and accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. At this point, developmental editing and copyediting are complete.

Indexing

Indexing involves the creation of an alphabetical list of the book's main topics, names, events, and places, along with the page numbers where they appear. It occurs after layout and before final proofreading.
